CFG YOUTH SUMMER MISSION

VANCOUVER MISSION/RETREAT 2024 INFO PAGE

We are headed to Vancouver this summer!

WHEN: August 12-18, 2024

COST: $350.00*

*If cost is an issue, please email sarah@cfg.church as we will work together as a youth group to fundraise!

WHO: This mission trip is for students of CFG Youth who are 15-18 (14-year-olds may apply with an additional reference)

WHAT: We are heading out to the Greater Vancouver Area to partner with several ministries. We will be partnering with churches in the Surrey area, participating in outreach events, and working with local community organizations addressing homelessness in Canada. A full schedule of mission activities will be available closer to the date.

We also will have a retreat element as we stay overnight at a campground. We will spend time at the campground doing personal and group devotions and practicing some personal disciplines in our faith. There will also be some fun elements for us to grow together as a youth group including time at Stanley Park or other fun activities in the area.

GOAL: Our goal is to help our students make their faith their own and grow in their personal walk with Jesus. We believe one of the best ways to grow in our faith is to put it into action. One of the biggest commonalities of young adults who keep their faith into their university years is that they participated in some sort of mission or camp as a youth or child. Therefore, we want to prioritize creating these opportunities for our students to step out in their faith and to experience discipleship outside of day-to-day life. Additionally, we know that trips like this help build Godly friendships and community in our youth group that help sustain students and teaches them the value of church.

LEADERSHIP: This team will be led by vetted CFG youth leaders and youth pastors including Sarah Sinanan, Nicolas Pacchiano, and Alissa Fenn. Other vetted youth leaders may be joining but these three are our main leaders. Combined, they have over 20 years of youth-leading experience. Nick and Sarah have also led this particular mission to Vancouver in 2018 and are excited to lead it again!

DETAILS: We will be staying at Rolley Lake Campground during our time in BC. For transportation, we will be driving from Calgary to Vancouver together. Camping supplies (including tents) will be provided, but sleeping bags and air mattresses are required for students to bring along. The campground will have shower facilities and food will be provided for the students for the duration of the trip. All costs, other than spending money, will be covered by the fee for the mission trip.

FAQ

Q: What do the students need to bring? A: A packing list will be provided for the students at least one month before the beginning of the mission trip!

Q: How is the campground? A: We are staying at a family-friendly and safe campground. The boys and girls will have separate campsites that are supervised by leaders. We will ensure all valuables are stored safely in the vehicles.

Q: Will my child(ren) be safe doing outreach and participating in ministry to people experiencing homelessness? A: Under NO circumstances will the youth be walking around the Vancouver area unattended. When we work in Vancouver and Surrey, we are partnering with other ministries that are consistently working in these areas and we will ensure that students are always paired with our leaders alongside local leaders during outreach.

Q: Will my child(ren) be safe travelling? A: We will be travelling during the day to ensure as much visibility as possible as well as ensuring well-rested drivers. The drivers of the vehicles will only be trusted leaders and the cars will be safe vehicles that can withstand driving long distances. We love the youth and want to ensure their safety.

If you have any other questions feel free to call Sarah or email her at any time. We love and care about your children and want to ensure that they are safe and give them the opportunity to grow in their faith. We want parents to feel comfortable knowing the youth are safe and cared for so please reach out with any questions! We are so excited to see what the Lord does in the lives of the students. Thanks and God Bless!
