OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD SHOEBOXES

Drop off shoeboxes at CFG by November 16

Operation Christmas Child provides an opportunity for people of all ages to be involved in a simple, hands-on project of Samaritan's Purse that focuses on the true meaning of Christmas - Jesus Christ - God's greatest gift.

How it works: Each shoebox is filled with hygiene items, school supplies, toys, among others, and is given to children regardless of gender, race, religion, or age.  When culturally appropriate, copies of a book entitled The Greatest Gift, which has been translated into 130 different languages, are offered to children after the shoeboxes have already been distributed

Fill your shoebox with a well-balanced variety of items from the following categories:
School Supplies - Pencils, erasers, pens, pencil crayons, scissors, note pads, picture books, etc.
Toys & Other Gifts - A WOW item and others such as stuffed animals, small musical instruments, hair clips, toy jewelry, t-shirts, socks, and other items.
Hygiene Items  - toothbrush, face towel/ washcloth, comb/ hairbrush, eating utensils, nail clippers & file, fun adhesive bandages
Personal Note  - Include a personal note and/or a photo in your shoebox (not inside the donation envelope)

So, it is important to make sure your gift is …
FUN—includes a “wow” item and other quality toys
FULL—packed to the brim with additional school supplies and personal care items
PERSONALIZED—prayed over and contains a note and photo, which are often the child’s favorite items!

DO NOT INCLUDE:
Candy; toothpaste; gum; used or damaged items; scary or war-related items such as toy guns, knives, or military figures; chocolate or food; seeds; fruit rolls or other fruit snacks; drink mixes (powdered or liquid); liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snow globes or glass containers; aerosol cans.

MAKE YOUR MINIMUM $12 DONATION PER SHOEBOX
Please donate a minimum of $12 for each shoebox you prepare to help cover project costs--including shipping. Please make one combined donation for multiple shoeboxes.  Donate by clicking this link https://www.samaritanspurse.ca/operation-christmas-child-12-dollar-donation/ or place your cheque or cash donation in an envelope inside your shoebox, on top of the items. If you make an online donation, you do not need to include the donation receipt in the shoebox. Tax-deductible receipts will be issued for donations of $15 or more.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: PRAY  that each child who receives an Operation Christmas Child shoebox will know how much God loves them.

CELEbration of nations

November 9 // After Service // Grace Hall

As part of our GO Month, we will have a CELEBRATION OF NATIONS on November 9, a nations-focused service and a Potluck Lunch to follow in Grace Hall. Please mark this on your calendar. There will also be a photo booth at the event!

For the potluck lunch, people/families will bring food from their nation/culture to share with the rest of the congregation and visitors. We will set up food stations by major continents: Asia, Africa, Europe, the Americas (North/South/Central America), and Australia/Oceania.

Please note:

  • There is a Food Sign-Up Sheet at the Info Desk to indicate what food you will bring - it can be a main dish, dessert, salad, appetizers, etc. It is preferable that you bring food in an aluminum tray that we can reheat in the oven and/or dispose of after the event. Or if you are bringing soup/stew etc, bring them in a pot/pan that we can reheat on the stove.

  • There is a Volunteer Sign-Up Sheet as we will need help to heat up / set out the food, serve as kitchen crew, oversee there is enough food & cutlery during lunch service, tear down/clean up after the event, among others.

  • Everyone is encouraged to dress in their national/traditional attire as part of the Celebration of Nations during the service.

  • We will have a playlist of worship songs from different countries played during the potluck in Grace Hall after the service. Please send in your song suggestions here: cfg.church/celebrationofnations.

  • We will also have a Photo Booth setup as well that is open during the event!

  • The church will provide the beverages: Coffee/tea, water, etc.
